Monday, June 8:
I got up at 0400, got ready, and packed up my last-minute items. Wes walked up to the office with me to catch my Uber to the airport. I arrived in plenty of time and made it to my gate. The flight was on time and I arrived in Chicago shortly after 0900. I then took the blue line to downtown and worked from our downtown office until lunch. Sarah, Nina, and I all grabbed a quick lunch before our meeting. Then we all went to a very nice dinner at RBP Steakhouse. It was a very nice dinner and conversation. We said our goodbyes to the others, then the three of us walked back to our hotel. We got checked in and then just relaxed the rest of the night. Wes remained at Delaware City and visited with the loopers there.
Tuesday, June 9:
We got up and ate a quick breakfast, then the three
of us were on the road around 0700 on our way to Fort Wayne, IN. The
drive was good (thank you Sarah for driving). We arrived to Salvatori's
for lunch where we had a nice lunch with our client. Then we went back to
their office for our meeting. From there, Sarah dropped me off at the
airport. My first flight was delayed slightly so I was nervous about
making my connecting flight. It was a tight time frame, but as soon as we
landed several of us rushed to the front to get off. I quickly walked over
half mile to my connecting gate and arrived just before they started
boarding. Phew!! We got on the plane then we sat on the tarmac for
30 minutes before we could take off. We arrived in Philadelphia around
2130. It took a while to get off the plane as I was in the back. I
got out there, got in my Uber and headed back to the boat. I arrived
around 2245. Wes was already in bed (but still awake). I shut off
the light and went straight to bed.
Wednesday, June 10:
We got up and got moving early as Wes wanted to leave no later than 0600. While Wes was getting the boat ready, I got everything secured. We dropped our lines around 0550 and started down the Delaware Bay. It was a little lumpy, but not bad. It got lumpier as the day went on, but we got to our anchorage near the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, NJ around 1300. I was on a work call, so Wes had to drop the anchor himself. There were already quite a few boats in there. After we anchored, there were a few more that came. A couple sailboats even anchored in the channel. Once I was done with work, we ate dinner, then we took the dinghy over to Knot on Call and enjoyed catching up with them. Then Kimberly and Jac from Salty Flamingo joined us with Murphy their dog as well. They didn't stay too long as there was a storm coming in and they needed to take Murphy to shore before the rain came. We also left before the storm. We got back to the boat around 2030. We relaxed by watching some TV then went to bed.
Thursday, June 11:
The forecast was not favorable to travel, so we stayed at anchor at Cape May (as did the others). It was a hot, humid day after the storms last night. I worked all day and Wes did some boat projects and computer work. Once I was done with work, we decided to go explore some. We went to Two Mile Crab House and enjoyed some food and beverages with Knot on Call (Ron and Audrey), Hull in One (Kevin and Tara) and Salty Flamingo (Jac and Kimberly). From there, we stopped at the boat and filled the cooler, then went over to Knot on Call for anchortales. Bird's Nest (Michael and Julianna) joined us as well. It was a very nice evening. We went back to the boat, watched some TV then off to bed.
Friday, June 12:
We got up early and got moving. We pulled the anchor around 0530 and started making our way to Atlantic City. The waves weren't too bad, but there were some larger ones mixed in, so Wes put the steady sail up. I helped a lot and made for a smoother ride. We arrived to Atlantic City around 1110 (just as I was getting off my work call). We dropped the anchor and settled in. After I was done working, we took the dinghy to shore with Knot of Call (Ron and Audrey) and Hull in One (Kevin and Tara) and checked out the small aquarium there. Then we walked over to to Back Bay Ale House where we enjoyed some food and beverages. Then we took the dinghies back to our boats. It was a hot day and I was beat. I sat on the aft deck and relaxed. Wes took the dinghy in to docktales where there were 36 other loopers. We secured the dinghy once he returned and then enjoyed the rest of the evening on the aft deck and watched the sunset. Then we went inside, fired up the generator, watched some TV then went to bed.
Saturday, June 13:
We got up at 0500 and started getting things ready to travel. We pulled the anchor shorted before 0530 and off we went out in the ocean and heading north. It was a little lumpy at first. Wes put up the steady sail and that helped. Then we turned a bend and we were taking the wind head on and the ocean calmed down and was smooth as glass. It was a beautiful day on the ocean!! We arrived at Manasquan around 1400 and got secured at Captain Bill's Landing. There was a lot of boat traffic around there! It was interesting getting in and trying to maneuver with all the boat traffic, but we managed. We got hooked up to power and turned the AC on as it was another hot one!! We relaxed on the boat for the afternoon, then we walked with Knot on Call for some ice cream at Salty's Inlet Ice Cream. The ice cream was delicious, but even in cups, it was melting fast. We walked back to the boat where we enjoyed a beverage on our aft deck. Then we went in, watched some TV then off to bed.
Sunday, June 14:
Another early morning, as the wind was supposed to pick up by mid-day and we wanted to get off the ocean before the wind and waves hit. We dropped our lines at 0530 and off we went. Another beautiful morning on the ocean. We made it to Great Kills Harbor around 1100 and dropped the anchor. We dropped the dinghy in and headed to shore as Wes had a package waiting for him. While we were there, we decided to go into the bar and have a couple beverages. Then we went back to the boat, relaxed a bit, had an early dinner, then went back to shore for docktales. There was quite the crowd there!! The yacht club had a graduation party going on, so we all went out to a picnic area on the side of the building. It was much quieter! People started heading off for dinner. The party inside had ended, so we went into the bar and visited with several loopers. As we were sitting there, the bar got a call that one of the boats anchored out was dragging their anchor and were against the wall. Wes and I and Bahama Problem (Chris and Kimber) rushed to our dinghies to help. While we were headed there, Wes called the boat that was dragging as they were off the boat eating dinner. We all got to the boat about the same time. The two dinghies grabbed lines and pulled them off the wall some while they fired up their engines. The got off the wall and re-set their anchor. We went back to Toscana, grabbed a couple of beers, then went to Bahama Problem for a night cap. As we were finishing our first beer, Wes got a call from Knot on Call that the boat's anchor drug again, so they went in to grab a mooring ball. We got in our dinghy to help them. Wes informed them that most of the mooring balls weren't maintained and only specific ones were good to use. There was room on the end of the dock and Great Kills Yacht Club so we guided them in (it was dark), we tied at the end of the dock and caught their lines and got them all secured. We went back to Toscana, relaxed a bit then off to bed.
