Toscana returns to her home of 26 years!

Monday, June 30:

We shoved off from Southport Marina around 0630 and headed north to Sheboygan.  It rained the during the night, so everything was wet and it was a bit humid.  The lake a smooth as glass.  We pulled into Sheboygan around 1630, got tied up and walked up to the marina office to check things out.  They have a very nice boaters lounge and facilities there.  We chatted with our neighbors for a while on the aft deck, then went to bed early as we were heading to Sturgeon Bay the next day.

Tuesday, July 1:

We shoved off around 0600 and headed north.  Lake Michigan was calm again and it was a beautiful day.  We got to the channel and missed the opening of the first bridge by 5 minutes, so we sat and idled for half an hour until the next opening, then once past that bridge we had to wait another 15 minutes for the next bridge to open.  Once we got through, it was on to Little Sturgeon Bay to anchor out in front of our friends place.  We had a quick dinner then dinghied over to Pete and Cheryl's place for a couple drinks and enjoyed a nice bon fire.  We got back to the boat around 2330 then went right to bed.

Wednesday, July 2:

We weren't moving too fast the next morning.  We got up and went back over to Pete and Cheryl's for morning coffee and visited with them a bit more before heading to Green Bay.  We pulled the anchor around 1030 and off we went.  It was another calm day for the most part.  As we were getting closer to Green Bay, we saw storm clouds to the west.  As we were pulling into Green Bay Yacht Club, the winds picked up.  We were too wide to fit in the slip they assigned us, so we went to the fuel bay.  Just as we were about in, the wind gusts were pushing us everywhere but where we wanted to go, so Wes just got us out of there before we hit any boats. We dropped the anchor off the channel and waited out the storm (about 45 minutes).  Once things calmed down again, we went back in and got tied up.  It was a tight fit, but we made it.  They only have 30amp power pedestals and the GFCI plugs, so we couldn't get any power for the night.  Wes turned on the generator to cool the boat down, while we went into the club to have a drink or two.  When we got back to the boat, all was dark.  The generator stopped pulling in water and had shut down.  We opened everything up and slept with a fan going.  It wasn't the best night sleep, but we managed.

Thursday, July 3:

Wes fired up the mains in the morning to charge the batteries while we waited trying to determine where we could go to get power.  We moved over to a slip (it was a very tight fit), but we were still tripping the breaker, so we still had no power.  They were able to get out out on the wall near the lighthouses were they had a 50amp non GFCI plug.  We got tied up and plugged in around 2000.  Wes found out they were having shrimp skewers in the club for dinner that night, so we went into the club and enjoyed a delicious dinner with a couple of adult beverages.

Friday, July 4:

We walked around and visited with the folks at the yacht club and had an enjoyable day.  We went back to the boat to watch the fireworks.  After the fireworks, we walked over near the clubhouse where they started a bone fire.  We sat around enjoying the company of a few of the members and visited and listened to music.  It was after midnight before we got bed.

Saturday, July 5:

We were a little slow getting going.  We decided it would be a good day to explore the area in the dinghy.  We headed up the Fox River to De Pere, then came back down.  We stopped at Fox Harbor for a beverage and then continued on our way.  We then explored the East River some, then the winds picked up and it looked like a storm was coming in so we turned around and headed back to the yacht club.  We made it back and secured the dinghy before the storm came through.  We had dinner on the boat then went up to the clubhouse for a few after dinner drinks and more visiting with the club members.  It was another late night.

Sunday, July 6:

We were even slower getting up in the morning.  We aren't used to staying up so late!  We went to the clubhouse late morning and each had a loaded bloody mary.  Then we went back to the boat and relaxed a bit.  Merlin and Tima came to visit us and we had a nice visit on the aft deck.  We all headed up to the clubhouse for dinner.  Merlin and Tima had things to do, so they headed out after dinner.  Wes and I stayed for a bit and visited with some members, but we were back at the boat at a normal time and went to bed at our normal time in what seemed like forever.  😂
